KVP's speech invites wrath of Telangana community

Hyderabad: Politicians, pro-Telangana activists and student leaders on Friday condemned the anti-Telangana speech made by the Congress MP KVP Ramachandra Rao in Rajya Sabha on Friday.

His remarks that the nation would disintegrate if Telangana state was formed, had exposed his ignorance in politics and constitution, the leaders opined.

Speaking on the Private Member Bill on Telangana introduced by BJP Rajya Sabha MP Prakash Javadekar, Ramachandra Rao had said the demand for Telangana was not justified.

Congress party should initiate disciplinary action against the MP for making such comments against the promises included in its manifesto of 2004, the leaders said.

'It may be recalled Congress swiftly took action against its senior leader K Keshava Rao. He was removed from CWC and was not given a second term for Rajya Sabha as he had vociferously supported the cause of statehood.

Would Congress apply the same principle for KVP for going against the party? In fact by making the statement that creation of new state would lead to disintegration of the nation, he has insulted former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, under whose tenure some new states were created,' Professor M Kodandaram said.

KVP Ramachandra Rao should be chased away from the region for hurting the sentiments of four crore people of the region, Congress MP Madhu Yashki said. 'He will always try to create hurdles for the formation of a separate state.

Telangana people should unite and teach him a lesson so that he will not speak against the aspirations of the region's people in future,' said the Congress leader.

Meanwhile, parties fighting for separate Telangana, TRS and BJP too slammed the Congress MP. KVP should be arrested for amassing Rs 10,000 crore of wealth by unfair means, said TRS politburo member Dr D Sravan.

'What was he doing when Congress included Telangana issue in its 2004 manifesto? He is the man behind transforming the state into 'Avineethi Andhra Pradesh' (Corrupt Andhra Pradesh),' alleged the TRS leader. There was no value attached to the statements made by KVP, opined BJP state chief G Kishan Reddy. He was not part of the government nor was he a decision maker, he added.

'People know what he is. In fact the cheating attitude of the Congress is once again exposed. One should appreciate BJP for its never say die attitude in getting the House to debate upon the Telangana issue through Private Member Bill, which the Congress party conspired to obstruct using all methods, but in vain,' he added.

KVP's speech was filled with lies, alleged K Govardhan, CPI (ML New Democracy) leader. He pointed out that the MP had tried to mislead the House about the decades-old aspirations of the public of Telangana.

Employees JAC leader V Srinivas Goud urged the Seema Andhra MPs not to make provoking statements, which were leading to suicides of innocent youth in Telangana.

KVP had spoken against Telangana just to save his properties in Hyderabad worth thousands of crores of rupees, which he had acquired under Congress rule in the State, alleged the Employee leader.

Student leader from Osmania University Konagala Mahesh advised the MP to read thoroughly what Article 3 of Indian Constitution had to say.

The student community would teach him a lesson if he continued to hurt their sentiments, warned the student leader. The CPM was reluctant to comment on this.
