Spate of thefts at Medaram jatara Medaram, Feb 7: A spate of theft cases were reported here on the eve of the three day tribal festival with a gang robbing a jaggery merchant of Rs 13 lakhs here on Tuesday.
A group of 10 persons pretending as customers created a rush for jaggery and stole a bag containing Rs 13 lakh, the trader Praveen Reddy has complained to police. Jaggery is offered to the deities in large quantity during the festival.
A gang from Maharashtra must be responsible for the theft, police said adding that there were reports of theft at bus station, Jampanna Vagu and Gaddela.
There were also reports of children being lost, the cc cameras were being used for government programmes instead of monitoring the crowd, devotees complained. A team lead by DSP Jogiah was set up to attend the cases of crime.
