TDP leader Muddasani passes away

Hyderabad: Senior TDP leader and former minister Muddasani Damodar Reddy (58) passed away today. He was suffering from bone marrow disease for some time. He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at NIMS. He is survived by wife Malati and son Kashyap Reddy.

Muddasani was a close follower of late chief minister NT Rama Rao. NTR was instrumental in shaping Muddasani's political career not only in Karimnagar but in the region. A science graduate from a Hyderabad-based college, he was attracted by the flamboyance of NT Rama Rao.

NTR was so fond of the young leader that he used to address him as 'Kamalapur Kurrodu'. Giving up his plans of opting for a government job, he joined the Telugu Desam Party in 1985. He was elected to the State Legislative Assembly from Kamalapur constituency in 1989, 1994 and 1999.

He became the TDP district president of Karimnagar in 1989. He was elevated to the post of the state general secretary of the party in 2004. He served as minister for three terms during NTR and Naidu's tenure.

Muddasani was also in-charge of Huzurabad constituency for some time. He lost the Kamalapur Assembly constituency to Etela Rajender in 2004.

Born in an agriculture family in Mamidalapalli village of Venavanka Mandal, Karimnagar district, he always championed the cause of the farmers and the weaker sections. TDP sources said that Muddasani had undergone an operation five years ago and recently again he fell ill. He was admitted to the NIMS four days ago.

Condoling the death of Damodar Reddy, the TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu said that Muddasani was an uncompromising leader and had agitated to resolve several problems for the welfare of the people. 'It's a great loss to the party,' added Naidu. Naidu will attend Muddasani's funeral to be held today. Minister for Panchayat Raj K Jana Reddy said: 'I have lost a good friend of mine. We were together in the party till 1985.'

D Sridhar Babu, Minister for Civil Supplies, appreciated Muddasani's contribution to the development works in Karimnagar district.TDP leaders Kadiam Srihari, Suddala Devaiah, Peddi Reddy, Mothkupalli Narasimhulu, Ravula Chandrashekhara Reddy MLA, Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhaker and others paid homage to Muddasani and consoled his family members.
