Lift garbage on immediate basis, demands Shabbir
Hyderabad, July 14 (INN): Leader of Opposition in Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir visited Charminar, Madina Market and other areas of Old City on Tuesday night to inspect the sanitation and other conditions which took a tragic turn following rains.
"Thousands of tonnes of garbage, which was lying uncleared on city streets, has now spilled over all roads due to incessant rainfall that lashed the city since Tuesday evening. The GHMC authorities have failed to clear the garbage despite knowing that 'Shab-e-Qadr' (the holiest night for Muslims) will be celebrated tonight. The rains have further deteriorated the condition. The devotees reached the mosques with great difficulty and hundreds of people who visited Charminar for shopping were unable to even walk on the stretch," Shabbir Ali said.
Shabbir Ali demanded that the State Government immediately deploy emergency teams to lift the garbage from all parts of the city. Instead of making alternate arrangements to immediately lift the uncleared garbage of nine days, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao remained silent by issuing a threat to striking workers. "As per KCR, Telangana is the richest State in the country. When State Government can give 43% fitment allowance to the employees, what is the harm in accepting the demands of outsourced employees for a raise in their pay?" he asked.
"By adopting an adamant attitude, KCR is putting the lives and health of all citizens at risk. Instead of making municipal strike as an ego issue and waiting for municipal workers to blink first, KCR should think about the possible threat the indisposed garbage poses for the city. Eid-ul-Fitr is just three days away and another spell of rains will push the uncleared garbage into the city's storm water drains. The city will be forced to celebrate the Eid amid foul smell and overflowing drains," he said.
Shabbir Ali said that the Chief Minister should implement his own suggestion and clear garbage by deploying Army, police and employees of other departments on war-footing basis.
