Congress, TD Govts ditched farmers: Eatela Hyderabad, Sept 29 (INN): The Telangana Rashtra Samithi on Thursday came down heavily on opposition parties for criticising the State Government on the delay of Mid Manair Dam works.
Speaking to reporters here, Finance Minister Eatala Rajender said that the opposition parties were making unnecessary fuss over the issue. He said that the TDP, whose government in the past did nothing for farmers, is now criticizing the TRS government. He said that during the TDP rule police opened fire on farmers who were demanding power for agri-sector. TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu often claims to have built Hi-tech City but at the same time he did gross injustice to the farmers in the state.
Rajendar also slammed Congress saying that the party did nothing for the farmers. The Congress Government spent crores of rupees in the name of Jalayagnam but the farmers did not benefit out of it. Congress Government did not even provide irrigation to 5 lakh acre in Telangana, he said.
He claimed that the TRS Government was working on a war-footing to complete the pending irrigation projects in the state. He said that the government has spent Rs. 675 crore for Mid-Manair Dam works in two years. The dam can withstand heavy flooding. The dam has the capacity to withhold 3 TMC water, since it received over 4 TMC water, it overflowed, he said.
The Minister said that the administration made timely intervention and ensured that there was no casualty due to heavy rains. He said that the administration took up relief measures and shifted the rain-affected people to relief camps. He said that over half of the tanks in the state have filled to the brim in the recent rains. The government took up works of Kakatiya Canal with the funds to the tune of Rs. 130 crore.
The opposition parties are afraid that they would have no future if the TRS government completes the projects. Hence they are creating fuss over the issue to stall the works, he alleged. The TRS government is committed to the welfare of the farmers and is providing nine hours of power supply to the farmers. Rajendar warned the opposition not to indulge in mudslinging for political mileage.
