Police station attacked after youth commits suicide Karimnagar, Oct 12 (INN): Tension prevailed in Manakondur village in Karimnagar district on Wednesday after relatives of a youth who committed suicide due to alleged harassment by police, attacked a police station and damaged furniture and other equipment on the police station premises.
According to reports, a local youth Shravan, 24, committed suicide following alleged harassment by police. He was one of the five youths who were asked to come to the police station on Wednesday after they had argument with a police constable during Dasara procession on Tuesday night. The police let off the youths a warning and asked them to come to the police station the next morning. However, Shravan went home and committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling.
The villagers resorted to protests and attacked the police station. They blocked Karimnagar-Warangal highway, disrupting traffic flow for hours.
Taking serious note of the incident, Karimnagar SP Kamalasan Reddy suspended SI Vamshikrishna and two constables.
The locals called off their protests only after the local MLA assured them of a government job to the kin of the deceased family and a compensation of Rs 10 lakh.
