CRIDA to organise Farmers' Day at Gunegal Hyderabad, Oct 17 (INN): The ICAR-Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture (ICAR-CRIDA) is organizing Farmers' Day on Tuesday at Gunegal Research Farm, which is about 11 km from Ibrahimpatnam on Nagarjuna Sagar Highway.
On this occasion, 700-800 farmers are expected to visit and interact with Scientists from ICAR-CRIDA and other Research Organizations. Dr. V. Praveen Rao, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Jayashanker Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU), Hyderabad will be the Chief Guest.
ICAR-CRIDA is one of the premier institutes of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, Government of India. It has been established in 1985 to cater to the needs of rainfed farmers of the Country. Since then, the institute has developed several technologies, which are being adopted by the farmers. The Institute has significantly contributed in developing suitable policy framework to benefit rainfed farming community. ICAR-CRIDA also impacts training to all stakeholders on various aspects of rainfed agriculture. The institute is also coordinating the flagship program of ICAR 'National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture'. Under this program, 40 Research Organizations are developing adaptation and mitigation practices to overcome the adverse impacts of climate change on agriculture and allied sectors. Technologies are being demonstrated through 100 KVKs to overcome impacts of extreme weather events.
During this event, farmers will be visiting the experimental sites showcasing improved crop management practices, drought management, rain water harvesting and its efficient utilization, alternate cropping systems, agricultural contingencies, improved farm implements, on- and off-farm income generation, and effect of climate change on agriculture. There will also be an opportunity for the farmers to interact with State Government officials. A separate question-and-answer session is being organized in which experts from ICAR-CRIDA, other ICAR Research Organizations in Hyderabad and PJTSAU will be interacting with the farmers about new crop varieties, natural resource management practices and other issues related to farming. Department of Agriculture, Government of Telangana will be giving information about the steps taken by the Government for the welfare of the farming community.
