No violation of law: AP police on encounter Hyderabad, Nov 2 (INN): The Andhra Pradesh Police on Wednesday told the Hyderabad High Court that its personnel had opened fire in self-defence when the Maosit opened fire at them which resulted in the death of 24 Maoists on Andhra-Odisha Border (AOB) last month.
The High Court was hearing a PIL by human rights activists seeking registration of murder cases against police involved in encounter, which they termed a fake encounter. In a counter filed in the court, AP police clarified that it did not violate any law in the exchange of fire that occurred on AOB on October 24.
Vizag Rural SP gave a detailed account of the circumstances which led to exchange of fire with Maoists on the day of the exchange of gun fire.
The court was also informed that bodies of 13 Maoists were handed over to their families while 11 bodies were preserved as their relatives have not come forward to claim them.
Meanwhile, security was beefed up in many areas on the Andhra Odisha Border in the backdrop of the day long band call given by the Maoist to protest against the 'fake encounter' that killed over 20 Maoists last month.
