Associations condemns attack on Uber drivers
Hyderabad, Nov 9 (INN): The Telangana State Cabs and Bus Operators Association (TSCBOA) and Telangana State Cab Owners and Drivers Association (TSCODA) have strongly condemned the attack on drivers by the Uber management on Wednesday.
TSCBOA President Syed Nizamuddin and TSCDOA General Secretary Rajasekhar Reddy informed that two Uber drivers, Satyaprasad and Raji Reddy, were brutally beaten up by the bouncers hired by Uber management when they went to their office to claim their incentives. "Satyaprasad is 55 years old and he was beaten up in such a brutal manner that he suffered a fracture in his hand. He gets the weekly incentive on every Tuesday. However, this week his account was showing 'zero'. He went to the Uber office today to enquire about it. But he was denied entry and beaten up by the bouncers. Another driver, Raji Reddy was beaten when he asked for his incentives," informed Syed Nizamuddin.
Nearly 150 drivers, whose incentives were stopped by the Uber management, assembled at the Uber office in Madhapur and lodged protest. Meanwhile, Madhapur police rushed to the spot and convinced the protesting drivers to come to the police station. The Uber management was also called to the police station. ACP Ramana and Inspector Kalinga Kumar negotiated and directed the Uber management to resolve the issue by next Monday.
Based on the complaint lodged by the victims, the Madhapur police have registered a case against the Uber management.
Syed Nizamuddin alleged that the Uber management was cheating the drivers using technology. He said all drivers have been promised incentive if they wait at the airport for 60 minutes, even if they don't get a booking. However, the drivers' App-based phones get restarted/refreshed exactly after 59 minutes and the drivers will be forced to wait for another hour either to get a booking or incentive. This is open cheating, he alleged while adding that the Uber management was getting drivers attacked when they are raising this point.
Both the Associations have threatened to launch a massive stir if the Uber management fails to resolve the problems being faced by the drivers. They warned the management against physical attacks on drivers.
