50 Vice-Chancellors to discuss future of education Hyderabad, Nov 27 (INN): Prof. Furqan Qamar, Secretary General of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), said that about 50 vice-chancellors from Telangana, Maharashtra, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh will discuss the situation of education in the country beginning Monday morning.
Speaking with the media on Sunday at Maulana Azad Urdu University Guest House Prof Qamar said that though India has made phenomenal progress in the field of education in the last 70 years there is a lot more ground to cover. 'The Vice Chancellors would be discussing ways to accelerate the growth in education with emphasis on quality. The recommendations made by the AIU are sent to a number of decision making points such as the Ministry of Human Resource Development and the University Grants Commission,' he said.
AIU conference on Sharing Best Practices in ICT, Teaching and Skill Development will wound up on November 29. It is being held in cooperation with MANUU. The Association was formed in 1925. It has been quietly influencing the decision making process in the area of higher education. With a membership of 650 Indian and 11 foreign universities the Association has been working in the areas of Equivalence of Degrees/Qualifications in the country as well as on foreign land.
Dr Mohammad Aslam Parvaiz, Vice-Chancellor of MANUU, said that the nation is in a transition state. The assertion of rights and identities are part of this stage. The students should be sensitized about the needs of the country.
Dr Shakeel Ahmed, Registrar MANUU, said that the hosting of the AIU indicates the place of pride his university is receiving in the country.
