Singhvi warns of public anger against demonitisation Hyderabad, Dec 3 (INN): AICC Spokesperson Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi has warned the BJP-led Government at the Centre against testing people's patience over demonitisation issue.
Addressing a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan on Saturday, Singhvi alleged that some BJP leaders had prior knowledge of demonitisation of old Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 500 currency notes and for the same reason they purchased properties, gold and other assets since the last six months. He said the allegations need to be investigated thoroughly. Therefore, he reiterated the demand for probe into demonitisation issue through a Joint Parliamentary Committee or a sitting judge of Supreme Court.
The Congress leader said that common people have been displaying utmost restraint while standing in long queues at banks and ATMs to withdraw their money. He asked the Centre to take immediate steps to end the inconvenience being caused to the general public. Else, he warned of serious consequences if people lose their patience. He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of imposing undeclared 'Financial Emergency'.
Slamming the Prime Minister for imposing demonitisation without any plans, Dr. Singhvi said India's 90% economy was based on cash and more than 80% people were not aware of cashless or online transactions. Describing the move as dictatorial, he said PM Modi has been issuing a new order every hour thus creating more confusion. He claimed that even BJP leaders were not happy with Modi's actions and most of them were not moving among people fearing angry reaction.
The Congress leader asked as to why the Prime Minister was skipping participation in debate on demonitisation in the Parliament. He demanded that Narendra Modi give a reply to the problems being faced by the people by making a statement in the Parliament.
Dr. Singhvi also alleged that there was a rise in terror attacks after Narendra Modi took over as the Prime Minister. He also expressed concern over increase in incidents of communal violence in BJP-rule.
TPCC President N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Vice-President Dr. Mallu Ravi, Chief Spokesperson Dr. Dasoju Sravan and other leaders were also present.
