Congress legislators hold protest
Hyderabad, Dec 5 (INN): Legislators of Congress party on Monday held protest demanding that the State Government convene the Assembly and Council sessions immediately.
Led by TPCC President N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Congress Legislature Party leader K. Jana Reddy and Leader of Opposition in Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir, the Congress MLAs and MLCs held dharna before the statue of Mahatma Gandhi statue in Assembly premises. When the Congress legislators were prevented by the police from going close to Mahatma Gandhi statue from inside the Assembly, they came out of the Assembly premises and staged sit-in protest outside the main grill.
Earlier, they staged protest at the CLP office and condemned denial of permission by the security forces to hold protest before the Mahatma Gandhi statue. Meanwhile, Telangana Legislature Secretary Raja S. Sadaram met the Congress leaders and held detailed discussion on their demands.
Speaking to media persons later, Uttam Kumar Reddy slammed the State Government for not convening the Assembly session. He said that there were several issues of utmost public importance that need to be discussed in the House. He said that the Congress party wants discussion on farmers' suicides, failure of government to clear dues of crop loan waiver scheme, Fee Reimbursement and Aarogyasri and also the negative impact of demonitisation of high value currency notes. He said that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had promised to conduct 10-day session during the meeting of Business Advisory Committee. He said despite giving formal request, a copy of minutes of BAC minutes was not being circulated to the Congress legislators.
The Congress chief demanded that the State Government convene the Assembly and Council sessions without further delay.
Congress MLAs G. Chinna Reddy, Rammohan Reddy, A. Sampath Kumar, D.K. Aruna and Padmavathi Reddy and MLCs Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, Santosh Kumar, M. Ranga Reddy and Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy also participated in the dharna.
