Jayalalithaa Passes Away Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa passed away on Monday at a Chennai hospital a day after suffering a cardiac arrest. She breathed her last at 11.30 PM.
Leaders from across the political spectrum and inconsolable supporters and AIADMK cadre thronged the Apollo Hospitals, where the 68-year-old had been admitted for over two months, as tributes poured in for the leader from across the country.
Security was beefed up outside the hospital and paramilitary forces were on standby across Tamilnadu.
Jayalalithaa was hospitalised on September 22 after she complained of fever and dehydration. The hospital, which had been issuing bulletins on her health status, had later said she was being treated for infection with respiratory support, among others.
She suffered a cardiac arrest late on Sunday and succumbed a day later on Monday.
