Cyclone Vardah makes landfall with heavy rain, wind Nellore, December 12: Cyclone Vardah keeps Andhra Pradesh on high alert with thousands of people evacuated and several trains cancelled. Vardah made landfall between Sriharikota and Chennai. A state of high alert is being maintained in Nellore district.
Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana is camping in Nellore to oversee the rescue and relief operations. "We have already moved thousands of people in seven vulnerable mandals to safety. All necessary measures have been taken to ensure safety of people," he said.
Nellore Superintendent of Police Vishal Gunni said his department has made necessary arrangements to help the other departments of the district administration.
Several trains were cancelled between Nellore and Chennai affecting thousands of passengers.
