Akbar Owaisi warns TRS Govt

Hyderabad, Dec 16 (INN): MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi advised Chief Minsiter K. Chandrashekar Rao againt extending "blind support" to the demonitisation move taken by the Central Government.

Participating in the Short Discussion in the Telangana State Legislative Assembly on Friday, Akbaruddin Owaisi said that the demonitisation move had nothing to do with black money or corruption but it was aimed at bailing out collapsing banking system and a few corporate houses. He said people have been facing several problems due to the demonisation and they would teach a fitting lesson to the ruling party at an appropriate time. He demanded that the government take immediate steps to end the woes of common people.

The MIM MLA protested when Speaker S. Madhusudan Chary cut his mike asking him to end the speech. He walked up to the Speaker's podium to lodge his protest.

Akbaruddin Owaisi said that the BJP and also the TRS would pay a heavy price for causing inconvenience to crores of people. He said that the Central Government was proved wrong in its claims on counterfeit currency. He said nearly Rs. 13 lakh crore in old currency notes have been deposited with the banks and about Rs. 4 lakh crore were already into the system. He asked when Rs. 17 lakh crore was already in the financial system, then where was the black money.

Referring to the statement made by the Chief Minister that demonitisation would curb political corruption, the MIM MLA advised the government to pass a resolution in the House to stop donations for political parties. He said during the last 10 years, BJP and Congress received donations of Rs. 5,450 crore while Left parties got Rs. 471 crore and BSP got Rs. 448 crore. He claimed that the MIM did not receive any donation. He said if Prime Minister Narendra Modi was serious on black money, then he should explain the sources for Rs. 1200 crore which was spent on BJP's campaign in 2014 General Elections.

Akbaruddin Owaisi said that the demonitisation has badly hit the common man, especially the poor people like vendors, daily wage earners and farmers. He said of Rs. 19,109 crore new currency notes sent by the RBI to Telangana, nearly 96% notes were of Rs. 2,000 demonination and there was huge shortage of change. He said that the move has badly affected marriages, treatment and other activities. He said that the move has also hit the revenues of State Government. He sought to know whether Telangana remained a revenue surplus State after demonitisation.

The MIM leader said that there was not enough infrastructure to implement the cashless economy in the State. Quoting figures he said there was just 3,554 ATMs across the Telangana State and of them, 1,830 were located in Hyderabad. There was a need to set up 9,000 ATMs at different places in the State. He said nearly 4,000 villages have no banks or post offices and that gap needs to be filled. As against the present 74,000 swiping machines, Telangana would need at least 10 lakh machines. Traders or POS would have to spend Rs. 10,000 to procure each machines and the overall investment would be of Rs. 1,000 crore.

Akbaruddin Owais said e-banking would also lead to Cyber Crimes and so far, Telangana has no Cyber Laws or Cyber Courts to detect and try such cases.

He said while the MIM was openly supporting TRS Government, the Chief Minister was advocating the BJP Government. He said this situation has put the MIM in huge embarrassment.
