Nayeem Case: KCR says no to CBI probe
Hyderabad, Dec 19 (INN): Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday turned down the Congress party's demand for a CBI probe in slain gangster Nayeem case.
Speaking in the Assembly on the Nayeem case, Chandrasekhar Rao said that the State police was efficiently dealing with the case and there was no need for a CBI inquiry. He refuted the Opposition charges that the TRS government was saving those involved in the case. He said that Nayeem had committed those crime during the Congress rule and it was unfortunate that the Congress was blaming the TRS government for the misdeeds of Nayeem.
KCR said that he had directed the state police not to spare anyone related to Nayeem case and deal those guilty sternly. He said that the Congress government failed to catch Nayeem when he escaped from police custody when he was brought for the court hearing in 2007. He said that the TRS government has strengthened law and order situation in the state and cracked whip against the criminals. The crime rate has gone down, he said. He said that the police had to fire at Nayeem in self defense and that the police had tried to catch him live but had to resort to firing in unavoidable circumstances, the Chief Minister said.
The Chief Minister said that the State Government had constituted Special Investigation Team to have a thorough probe into the case. He said that the SIT has enquired 741 witnesses and registered 174 cases. Till date 124 people were arrested for having links with the slain gangster. He said that the investigating agencies have confiscated Rs.2.9 Crore cash, 21 cars, 21 guns, 26 bikes and documents related to 1,015 acres land. He said that so far two charge sheets have been filed in the court and 15 more would be filed soon.
Earlier, Deputy CLP leader T. Jeevan Reddy accused the government of protecting those involved in the Nayeem case. He said that the slain gangster was involved in hundreds of cases but the government failed to act against those who had links with the slain gangster. He also demanded that the State Government hand over the case to CBI for a fair probe.
BJP MLA C Ramachandra Reddy, TD MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah, CPM MLA Sunnam Rajaiah also spoke on the issue and demanded a transparent probe and strict action against all those involved in the case.
