Crucial GoM meet today
New Delhi: The crucial meeting of the Group of Ministers (GoM) is slated for today, which is expected to put the process of bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in a decisive phase. This is the third meeting of the GoM, which was constituted after the Union Cabinet decision on October 3, to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh.
At the crucial meeting, the GoM is expected to take into account the inputs provided by the various Union ministries. It will also receive inputs from the Andhra Pradesh Government.
Besides, the Task Force headed by super cop K Vijay Kumar has also submitted the report, which will be taken up for consideration. The political parties have also submitted their views, which will be taken into consideration.
Thus, with enormous material placed before it, the GoM steps into the decisive phase now, although the GoM is expected to have a couple of meetings more to finalise its report.
Although the GoM has sought views of every political party, the ruling Congress has ended up making more than one submission. It has not only ended up giving memoranda on regional basis but also individual ones.
The TDP and the YSRCP have declined and the BJP has sought more time. The GoM is meeting political parties on November 1112. The Home Ministry on Wednesday faxed invitation letters only to five political parties Congress, TRS, BJP, CPI and MIM, which had sent their reports on the terms of reference of GoM in response to the earlier letters sent by the ministry.
As the TDP and YSRCP wanted to counter the moves of the Centre to put them in a fix by convening an all-party meeting, the Centre in a strategic move decided to omit the names of these two parties from the list of invitees and thereby pushed them into a corner.
The Congress party feels that they had succeeded in exposing the TDP's doublespeak as Naidu had been forced to write a letter to Prime Minister to put the process of division on hold.
Sources indicate that the GoM scheduled to meet on Thursday may finalise the draft report on announcing a financial package as well as sops to Seemandhra post bifurcation and its stance on the status of Hyderabad and Article 371 (D).
