Andhra should soon build its own capital, says Ponnam HYDERABAD: The government of the residuary state of Andhra should begin functioning from its own soil as early as possible, Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar has suggested to the GoM.
The Congress MP felt though the capital of Andhra could work from Hyderabad for a period of 10 years, it would be in the interest of the Andhra region if it builds a capital of its own as early as possible.
Till such time, the Andhra government could be accommodated in separate buildings in Hyderabad. He said Hyderabad should be under the administrative control of Telangana government.
Referring to the other terms of reference relating to law and order and security of residents, Prabhakar said in the name of answering such apprehensions, administrative and legal powers over Hyderabd should not be transferred to any group or the Centre.
Prabhakar said the demand for making Hyderabad a Union Territory means surrendering the sovereignty of people. He said if Hyderabad is made UT, the Governor of AP will be its administrator.
The incumbent Governor of AP would be the governor of both Telangana and Andhra (because Hyderabad will be capital for both states for 10 years) and also administrator of Hyderabad UT. 'We will find three chief ministers standing in queue for his signature on files,' he said.
Referring to the Seemandhra demand for a share in the revenue of Hyderabad, Ponnam described it as illegitimate. Andhra leaders base their argument that they had invested heavily in Hyderabad, but statistics reveal that their share of investments is not more than 25 p.c.
Describing as atrocious the demand for a share in Hyderabad's revenue, he said those making this demand should also come forward to share liabilities. He said that Telangana people had suffered at the hands of Seemandhra leaders and therefore the demand for a share in revenue is unjustifiable.
