i4Farmers to help in Drip Irrigation Methodologies New Jersey, USA: i4Farmers, a non-profit organisation based in New Jersey, USA is helping farmers in Andhra Pradesh in Advanced Drip Irrigation Methodologies, said the organisation in a press release. i4Farmers partners with Center for Sustainable Agriculture (CSA) in Hyderabad and farmers directly. i4Farmers has also hired a full time employee to help facilitate, coordinate and monitor various activities at the ground level. In the past 6 months or so, since its inception, i4farmers has been in touch with farmers on the ground and other NGOs to understand the issues.
Farmers who grow Mango trees in dry lands have to carry water from half kilometer to several kilometers distance with pots. That was very tough task and since most of the farmers are poor they go to daily labor work instead of growing Mango.
With the innovative method in Drip Irrigation, farmer can keep one tank for 2 acres. And they will keep 2 inches pipe line around the 2 acres land to attach 70mm pipe to 140 mango trees. Beside the mango trees they will keep mud pot, which will attach 5 liters of bottle to that they will keep small hole where the watering will be done to the plants. In a summer month the tank need to be filled four times and 2 times in rainy season. Farmers from U.Rajupalem, Kadapa district are currently using this method with the help of i4Farmers.
i4Farmers is also helping widows of farmers who committed suicide. Along with other non-profit organizations in India, the organisation has been providing help for the needy widows and families with temporary monetary support in order to provide immediate relief to the families. This project has been implemented in Vidarbha region of Maharastra and Mahboobnagar district in Andhra Pradesh. So far, i4Farmers helped 5 families.
We are planning to expand our activities with the help and support from like minded people, said the team behind i4Farmers. For more details, visit: http://www.i4farmers.org
