KCR rules out merger with Congress HYDERABAD: TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao made it clear his party will not be merged with the Congress amid speculation to the contrary and asserted it will not even have an alliance with any party for the 2014 elections.
He called upon party leaders to gear up the cadre in that direction and conduct training classes to prepare them for the battle of the ballot.
There has been speculation, ever since the Congress Working Committee announced its decision to divide the State, that the TRS will merge with the party once the Telangana Bill is passed in Parliament.
AICC State affairs incharge Digvijaya Singh had said as much some time back. However, the TRS chief had been tight-lipped on the issue and maintained that a decision would be taken only after the Telangana State becomes a reality. His latest announcement seems to have drawn the curtains on the merger issue for now.
Meanwhile, the Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) chairman M Kodandaram met the TRS chief on Monday ahead of the latter's visit to Delhi for the all-party meeting convened by the Group of Ministers on Tuesday and Wednesday.
KCR and the party's general secretary K Keshava Rao will represent the party at the all-party meeting. The focus of Kodandaram's meeting with KCR, according to TJAC leaders, was to ask the TRS leaders to be firm on the demand for Telangana State with no compromises on either Hyderabad or any other issues.
'We have discussed how best to present the demand for Telangana, taking every issue into account, before the Group of Ministers. What should be the strategy to counter those opposing Telangana,' Kodandaram told Express.
Though there was no invitation for TJAC or any other organisations except for selected political parties for the meeting with GoM, the TJAC chairman would be leaving for New Delhi on Tuesday to meet different political parties for seeking their support in favour of the Telangana State.
