Rajnath says no blind support for T bill HYDERABAD: At a time when the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre is expediting the Telangana state creation process and the Group of Ministers (GoM) set up by it is about to meet representatives of political parties to discuss the terms of reference, BJP, the main opposition party in Parliament, has assured employee leaders from Seemandhra that it will not support the Telangana bill.
BJP president Rajnath Singh told APNGO chief Ashok Babu and representatives of other Seemandhra organisations, who met him at his residence in Delhi on Monday night, that though the BJP supports smaller states, it cannot blindly support Telangana bill if there are any violations of constitution or law and set procedure is not followed.
Speaking to media persons, Ashok Babu said that the BJP president had assured them that they would support the bill only if equal justice was assured to all the regions.
'When we pointed out the opinion expressed on the draft bill in the State Assembly, when it is referred to it, Rajanth Singh said that Parliament had to honour the opinion of the State Assembly. He also said that opinions of the state Assemblies were considered when three new states were formed during NDA rule,' he said.
The APNGO chief felt that though the BJP had not come out outright in support of integration, its stance on equal justice, set procedures and non-violation of constitutional provisions and, above all, for honouring the opinion of the Assembly would prove to be impediments in the bifurcation process.
