Ananta dropped plans to join YSRCP HYDERABAD: In a move that could dent the prospects of YSRC in Anantapur district, Congress MP Ananta Venkatarami Reddy has reportedly dropped his plans to shift to that party.
A variety of reasons, including 'certain demands' put forth by the YSRC leadership are understood to have piqued the MP who has now decided to sink or sail with the Congress.
Apart from Nandyal MP SPY Reddy, Venkatarami Reddy, who represents Anantapur, was among those who called on YSRC chief Jagan Mohan Reddy when the latter sat on a hunger strike in Hyderabad in favour of united Andhra Pradesh, suggesting that he would join the party.
Sources said Venkatarami Reddy was actually in two minds at that time on the question of calling on Jagan, but succumbed to pressure brought on him by functionaries of YSRC and also local Congress cadre which is worried about the division fallout on the party.
He was, however, careful enough not to have formally announced his shift to YSRC and merely announced support to the fast.
According to those privy to subsequent developments, Venkatarami Reddy, who enjoys a clean and good image in the constituency was not comfortable over the suggestions made to him as to what the YSRC expects from him if he were to join the party.
In fact, when Reddy contemplated a shift to YSRC, some more MLAs and former MLAs from Anantapur district were also expected to join Jagan's party along with the MP. But, all of them have now more or less backed out.
'I have decided to remain with the Congress, whatever be the consequences. In the worst case, I will not be elected the next time,' he reportedly told his aides.
