Naidu writes to President, seeks his intervention
Hyderabad: TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday urged President Pranab Mukherejee to direct the Centre to strictly follow Constitutional provisions and established conventions on the issue of bifurcation of the State.
Reiterating the party stand, Naidu said that the Central government should invite all the stakeholders including employees, students, farmers, joint action committee leaders and others from all the regions, and hold detailed consultations on all the contentious issues.
He said the government should not move forward till an amicable solution acceptable to all the stakeholders was found.
In his three-page letter to the President, Naidu referred to the 'democratic procedure' adopted by NDA government in the past while creating Uttarakhand, Chattisgarh and Jharkhand in the year 2000.
He said the NDA government got resolutions passed in the respective state Assemblies thus setting up a good convention. That procedure should be taken as a precedent in the case of bifurcating Andhra Pradesh as well.
Naidu said that when the State of Telangana was merged with Andhra Pradesh, the then Prime Minister took an initiative and handled the issue smoothly. But the present government was not taking any such initiative.
He said he had undertaken a fast in Delhi to highlight this aspect. 'The unconventional and undemocratic method adopted by the Central government is a big threat to the federal polity and democracy of the country.'
The TDP alleged the Centre was unmindful of the sensibilities of the agitating public and the casual frivolous approach adopted by GoM in seeking suggestions from the stake-holders through e-mail.
The Prime Minister, he said, was not taking any steps to initiate consultations with the stake holders as TDP had urged in its letter to him recently.
Referring to the agitation in Seemandhra region, he said the Congress party should take the responsibility for creating confusion in the region.
'It is their mishandling that has led to intensified agitation by the people. This apathy of the government has eroded the faith of the people in political parties,' he said.
Seeking the opinions of a few political parties cannot lead to an amicable solution to the issue, unless exhaustive consultations were held with stake-holder groups, he contended.
