'Telangana, a historical necessity' Hyderabad: Union minister for Science and Technology S Jaipal Reddy on Wednesday asserted that formation of Telangana state was a historical necessity and it would become 29th state in the country soon.
Addressing a thanks giving public meeting at Nirmal, organized to express gratitude to the congress party and its president Sonia Gandhi for Telangana state, the Union minister said that the TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu supported Telangana in 2009 and backtracked soon.
He expressed gratitude to those who consistently fought for Telangana and said that 60 year of struggle resulted in statehood to the region.
Formation of Telangana was a courageous decision being taken by the Congress party and Sonia Gandhi, the union minister said and added that it could not have been possible to anyone other than Sonia Gandhi. 'She could not take decision for four years due to the pressures of Seemandhra leaders,' the union minister said.
APCC former president D Srinivas and information and public relations minister DK Aruna said that it was not proper on the part of the chief minister to send a report to the central government without consulting his cabinet colleagues against the state division. They said that downtrodden sections' welfare would be given priority after formation of Telangana.
Parliament member P Prabhakar said that they would not allow display of the chief minister's flexi during Rachabanda programme in Telangana. He alleged that Kiran Kumar Reddy had sent a report without taking opinions of Telangana ministers.
Former minister Shabbir Ali said that families of Telangana martyrs would be helped after formation of Telangana state. Housing minister Uttam Kumar Reddy also addressed the gathering.
