Cops clueless about medico's immolation Hyderabad: The Karnataka police have drawn a blank on the brutal attack on the 22year-old MBBS student from Mahabubnagar, who is battling for his life at St John's Hospital in Bangalore.
They said they were probing several angles including allegations that some students had deliberately targeted Kameshwar Sai Prasad.
It may be noted that the medical student was set on fire in Karnataka by a group of men who allegedly tried to rob him off his gold chain while was returning to his room late on Tuesday night in Kolar district, 100 km away from Bangalore.
Even though it was suspected to be a bid on his life for gain, the student had no gold ornaments or any other valuables with him at the time of the attack, said the sources. The crime spot was also littered with some emptied liquor bottles.
Mahabubnagar Superintendent of Police D Nagendra Kumar said that the MBBS student was set ablaze by some unidentified assailants. He termed the incident as handiwork of some rivals of the student.
He claimed that the police were trying to find out whether the assailants had snatched away his gold chain before setting him afire. Apart from the Bangalore police, a team of investigators was sent from Mahabubnagar district was probing the incident thoroughly, he said. The student's condition was still critical, he said.
The SP observed said that a section of media was intentionally distorting the incident. He dismissed reports that the student was a victim of regional animosity.
