Immolated medico succumbs to burns in Bangalore HYDERABAD: Kameshwar Sai Prasad, the 22-year-old medico from Mahbubnagar district, who was set afire by two miscreants in Kolar on Nov 13, succumbed to his burns at St John's Medical College and Hospital in Bangalore on Tuesday afternoon.
His parents Lakshman Sharma and Jyothi, both advocates, were at his side when he breathed his last. He had suffered 70 percent burns and was on dialysis after his kidneys failed.
A fourth year MBBS student in Devaraj Urs Medical College in Kolar, Karnataka, Kameshwar was a native of Polkampalle village in Vangur mandal, Mahbubnagar district. On the fateful night of Nov 13, he was returning to his room from a temple, when unidentified miscreants waylaid and tried to rob him of his gold chain.
When he resisted, they allegedly doused him in flammable oil and set him afire. Locals and one of his roommates, who observed the fire, had rushed to the spot, doused the flames and alerted the police.
He was rushed to the Devraj Urs Medical College Hospital first, and was later shifted to St John's Medical College Hospital. Even though it has been a week since the attack, police seem clueless about the assailants.
Local reports suggested his parents were of the view that rivalry between Rayalaseema and Telangana students might have claimed his life.
According to sources, Karnataka police were asked by Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy, who represents Kalwakurthy, to leave no stone unturned in bringing the culprits to book.
Kameshwar's father Lakshman Sharma is president of the Kalwakurthy Bar Association. Kameshwar's body will be brought to his native village on Wednesday.
