Telangana Bill to Cabinet on Nov 28
New Delhi: With the Telangana Bill likely to be taken up in the Union Cabinet on November 28, the crucial meeting of the Group of Ministers (GoM) on Telangana will be held on Thursday.
At this meeting, the GoM is expected to finalise its report. Soon after the GoM finalises its report, it will submit it to the Union Cabinet. With the finalisation of the report, focus will shift to the Telangana Bill.
With Union Ministers from Seemandhra virtually reconciled to bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, they are now seeking an attractive package for the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh.
Some of the Union Ministers from Seemandhra on Wednesday called on Defence Minister A K Antony, Petroleum Minister M Veerappa Moily and Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh.
According to Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, if need be, one or two more meetings may become necessary, if the work is not completed on Thursday.
The effort, however, is to expedite the process, as the Bill has to be taken to the Union Cabinet on November 28. The GoM on Telangana has concluded the consultations with the political parties, the Union Ministers from Telangana and Seemandhra regions and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy. The GoM has also been holding meetings with the Union Secretaries from various concerned ministries.
Tourism Minister K Chiranjeevi, Textiles Minister Kavuri Sambasiva Rao, Minister of State for Railways Kotla Suryaprakash Reddy and Minister of State for Finance J D Seelam called on Antony and pleaded their case for a good package.
Earlier, the Union Ministers from Seemandhra also met Jairam Ramesh. The Union Ministers from the Seemandhra region received a raw deal from the GoM. The GoM declined to entertain their plea for keeping Andhra Pradesh united.
These Union Ministers were bluntly told by the GoM that their brief was bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. Finally, the Union Ministers from Seemandhra fell in line and sought the best possible deal for the residuary State of Andhra Pradesh.
