Dejected lovers attempt suicide
Hyderabad: A 24-year-old youth along with his lover attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison after their elders rejected their marriage proposal at a lodge at Kothapet in Saroornagar. While the boy's condition is stated to be critical, the girl is out of danger.
According to police, the duo, Srikanth and Pallavi of Manneguda village resorted to the extreme step at room number 503 of Shanta lodge after their elders turned down their marriage proposal citing they belong to different castes.
Hailing from a village in Hayathnagar mandal, they have been in love with each other since three years. While Srikanth belongs to Dalit community, Pallavi is from a socially upper caste.
They hired a room on Wednesday morning at 10 am claiming that they were a married couple. Management of the lodge alerted the police after some screams were heard from the room when the couple consumed pesticide on Thursday at 2 am.
Police summoned the 108 ambulance and rushed the duo to the OGH. A case was registered under Section 309 (attempt to commit suicide) of the Indian Penal Code. Investigations are underway. Police were reportedly counseling elders of both families.
