Kiran's images torn down in Telangana HYDERABAD: Like never before, a government programme was held at different places across Telangana without the image of the chief minister, with people, encouraged by both ruling and opposition parties, demanding the programme sans CM's image or name.
Rachabanda was held at a number of mandal headquarter towns across Telangana on Thursday. Congress MP Ponnam Prabhakar ensured that Kiran Kumar Reddy's flexis were removed at Medipalle in Karimnagar district, while TRS activists and Vemulavada MLA Chennamaneni Ramesh cheered. The CM's image on the cheques issued were also blacked out.
Similar incidents were reported from Gangadhar mandal headquaters, Manakonduru and in Adilabada.
Tension prevailed for some time at the Rachabanda programme at Luxettipet when Mancherial MLA G Arvind Reddy (TRS) and Peddapalle MP G Vivekanand wanted removal of the CM's flexis, which was objected by former Congress MLC Premsagar Rao and his men.
A heated argument took place between the two groups, who pushed each other. Police intervened and brought the situation under control. The programme was held after removing the flexis.
At Kattangoor in Nalgonda district, the chief minister's images were torn down by Telangana votaries, who shouted 'Seemandhra CM Down, Down'.
At Nidamanur some activists tried to tear down the CM's image and fix panchayat raj minister K Jana Reddy's image there, but police prevented it.
Tension prevailed at Vikarabad in Ranagareddy district when Telangana votaries demanded removal of the CM's image. At Malkajgiri, MLA Akula Rajender boycotted the porgramme on noticing that his and the CM's flexis were missing.
At Achampeta in Mahbubnagar district, tensions prevailed when TRS party activists tried to obstruct the programme, peeved over the village Sarpanch, a TRS sympathises, not being invited onto the stage. Police arrested some of them. Information minister DK Aruna participated in the meeting.
At Ija in the district, TRS activists in large numbers tried to obstruct the Rachabanda, saying they do not want a programme started by anti-Telangana Kiran Reddy.
Tension prevailed when pushing took place between police and TRS activists. Police arrested 15 TRS activists and the programe was cancelled. At some places in Medak district, the CM's images were replaced with those of deputy CM Damodara Raja Narasimha.
