Renuka removed as AICC spokesperson HYDERABAD: On a day when the Congress Core Committee, headed by AICC supremo Sonia Gandhi, gave its nod to the draft report of the Group of Ministers on bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, party firebrand Renuka Chowdary was dropped from the post of AICC spokesperson.
According to party sources, Renuka has been asked by the party leadership henceforth not to represent the party in political discussions on TV channels.
It is not clear why the AICC leadership suddenly kept a tight rein on Renuka, who earlier represetned Khammam in the Lok Sabha.
As this decision was taken at a time when the Congress leaders on either side of the divide are crossing swords on the issue of retaining Bhadrachalam division, which is in Khammam district, with the proposed state of Telangana, lot of inferences are being drawn from this development by the state Congress leaders.
It may be recalled that though Renuka is claiming that she is a Telangana woman, several Congress leaders from the region are not ready to accept her as the 'daughter of the soil'.
Their contention is that the MP had earlier several times during political debates on TV channels spoke against Telangana. In fact, during the recent meeting of the T-Congress leaders held here, Ponnam Prabhakar and R Damodar Reddy took strong exception to her presence.
Though Renuka is of late throwing her weight behind the T-issue, her soft approach towards the chief minister Reddy is said to have not gone down well with the party high command.
