Prakasam Barrage turns hot spot for protests Vijayawada: The Prakasam Barrage has become central point for the political parties to harvest votes for the 2014 general elections using the water issue.
The Brijesh Kumar Tribunal Award on sharing of Krishna river water among the three States of Maharastra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh had come in handy for the political parties to reach out to the farmers and the farm labourers.
The shortage of water for the 150 year old Krishna delta would certainly hit the farmers and the farm labourers, besides other sections who would rally for its protection. It is for this reason, the parties have set their eyes on the water issue.
The YSR Congress has decided to hold protest at the Prakasam Barrage alleging injustice meted out to the State in the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal award.
The YSR Congress leaders who are gearing up for the protest on Prakasam Barrage are set to target the State government for its failure to put forward a strong case of the State before the Tribunal.
Meanwhile, the Telugu Desam is also marching forward to cash in on the water issue. The party had planned for a massive dharna at Prakasam Barrage on December 4, in which the party chief N Chandrababu Naidu is also expected to participate.
The TD had been pointing an accusing finger at late Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy for the projected water crisis for Krishna delta.
The TD leaders allege that Dr Rajasekhar Reddy had given a letter to the Brijesh Tribunal not claiming the rights on dependable and surplus water of the river, leaving more rights for Maharastra and Karnataka.
