Assembly session from December 12 HYDERABAD: The winter session of the State Assembly will begin on Dec 12. A decision to this effect was taken by the State Cabinet at a meeting here Tuesday.
According to sources, when Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy raised the issue, one minister suggested the Assembly could be convened on Dec 13 while another felt Dec 16 could be ideal.
However, the Chief Minister wanted officials to zero in on an auspicious day which they did (Dec 12) promptly. The session assumes significance as the Telangana bill is likely to be referred to the Assembly in the near future.
The Assembly was adjourned sine die on June 21. 'If the T bill comes to the Assembly during the session, we will take it up for discussion,' a Seemandhra minister said.
The Cabinet meeting did not witness major fireworks but Kiran Reddy's plan to inaugurate the Pulichintala Project on Dec 7 is said to have attracted the wrath of his colleagues from Telangana, particularly K Jana Reddy and N Uttam Kumar Reddy.
Jana Reddy reportedly asked him how could he dedicate the project without announcing proper compensation to the displaced, a majority of whom are in his native Nalgonda district.
According to sources, during the meeting, when Secondary Education Minister K Parthasaradhi informed his colleagues about the inauguration of Pulichintala Project, Jana Reddy took strong exception and asked the Chief Minister to first address the concerns of people of affected villages.
The minister from Nalgonda district cited unsolved problems relating to resettlement and rehabilitation of 6,000-odd families in Nalgonda and Guntur districts displaced by Pulichintala project.
According to sources, he asked Kiran Reddy not to carry out his plans of inaugurating the project and holding a public meeting at Vijayawada on the same till the problems of the displaced were addressed.
Housing Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, who is also from Nalgonda district and who had earlier vehemently opposed Pulichintala Project, too is learnt to have thrown his weight behind Jana Reddy when the Panchayat Raj Minister was haranguing his boss.
Kiran Reddy has planned to use the Pulichintala inauguration as a platform to attack his party high command's T-decision. Kiran Reddy's recent sanction of `2,000 crore for the `4,300 crore drinking water project in his native Chittoor district was also questioned by Jana Reddy and other Telangana ministers which forced the Chief Minister to give a power point presentation to defend his decision.
The Cabient ratified the sanction for the project which will meet the drinking water needs of 45 mandals and five towns including Tirupati in Chittoor district.
However, Jana Reddy opined that the scheme should have been referred to the Cabinet before sanctioning it.
Civil Supplies Minister D Sridhar Babu said several districts in the state required such drinking water schemes. Endowments Minister C Ramachandraiah wanted the Chief Minister to sanction similar drinking water scheme for Kadapa too. Then, Kiran Reddy assured the Cabinet that they would undertake a survey across the state.
