Lagadapati wishes for party rout in polls HYDERABAD: Normally, any politico wants his party to finish first in any electoral race. However, in Andhra Pradesh, several Congress leaders are wishing doom for their party in the just-concluded Assembly polls in five states.
Many Seemandhra Congress leaders, particularly those in chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy's camp, are pinning their hopes on the results of these Assembly polls to stall bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
Even though the Centre is sending signals that it is firm on taking forward the T-process, Kiran Reddy's group believes the election results elections will surely throw a spanner in the works of their party high command.
Vijayawada Congress MP Lagadapati Rajagopal, who shot to fame with his poll predictions, has pressed the 'self-destruct' button and predicted rout for his party.
He believes that as soon as the results of these elections are out, the UPA government will become a lame-duck government.
'This development will, in turn, stall the process of AP bifurcation as other political parties, including allies of the UPA, will not come forward to back the T-bill in Parliament,' he says.
The maverick MP, who is considered the trusted lieutenant of Kiran Reddy in the battle against Centre's T-decision, on Wednesday evening, prophesied that Congress is unlikely to fare well in the Assembly polls.
'The results of these polls will definitely keep Congress on a tight rein. It pains us to say that our party is not going to put up a good show in these polls, one way we are happy that this will help the state remain intact,' he said.
