Chirnajeevi decides to quit Cabinet New Delhi: Union Minister for Tourism K Chiranjeevi decided to quit his cabinet post on Friday in protesting against the Union Cabinet's decision to divide Andhra Pradesh.
Chiranjeevi, who made a vain bid to convince Group of Ministers (GoM) to accord Union Territory status to Hyderabad, if the government wants to accord statehood status to Telangana by bifurcating Andhra Pradesh.
However, the GoM, it seems not bothered to take into consideration the views and demands put forwarded before them not only by Chiranjeevi but also their counterparts from Seemandhra region.
Peeved over the snub meted out after the Union Cabinet approved the GoM recommendations, and the public outrage pouring out in the streets of Seemandhra region, Chiranjeevi decided to quit his ministerial berth for which he tendered resignation long time back.
Chiranjeevi today wrote to Congress president Sonia Gandhi stating that he was deeply pained with yesterday's decision of the Union Cabinet. The division of state, he felt, is not accordance with the wishes of Seemandhra people who stands to lose heavily.
In this backdrop he said he cannot continue in the cabinet any longer and asked Sonia to accept his resignation kept pending for a long time.
