Congress is dead in Andhra Pradesh, says JC HYDERABAD: 'The Congress party is dead in the state,' said senior Congress leader and former minister JC Diwakar Reddy. 'The party has no future either in Telangana or in Seemandhra. I am waiting for a leader like Arvind Kejriwal in AP,' he told reporters at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
Asked about the criticism over his remarks against AICC president Sonia Gandhi, Reddy said he suggested he mooted young leadership as Sonia became old and fragile.
'PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana too made serous comments against Sonia. If action is to be taken, let the Congress take action against Botcha first,' Diwakar Reddy said.
The Congress had no future either in the state or in the country; the results in the four states is an indication, he added. 'Though I like national parties, the importance of regional parties is growing,' he said.
He said that his first choice was united Andhra. If division is imminent then he prefers Rayala-Telangana. He will not oppose formation of Telangana state with 10 districts, but is against the way the division is taking place, he said.
'A large number of party workers are following me for the last 40 years. I have to protect their interests,' Diwakar Reddy said when asked if he has plans to quit the Congress.
The Samikayndhra movement was launched in the eleventh hour and there would be no use, he said. Heaping praise on chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, he said, 'We will defeat the bill when it comes to the Assembly.'
