City cops book case against actor Salman Khan Hyderabad: The Falaknuma police, following court directions, booked actor Salman Khan on Thursday for hurting religious sentiments of Muslims on a TV reality show, hosted by him on Colors channel.
A case against the actor and producers of the show `Bigg Boss' for insulting a religion was booked under Section 295 (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings) of the IPC.
Advocate MA Qawi Abbasi said Md Fasihuddin, a businessman, had approached the Sixteenth Additional Chief Metropolitan Magis trate, seeking direction to the police to register a case.
Police commissioner Anurag Sharma told reporters that a case was booked after a city court gave a direction in a petition filed by Fasihuddin, who alleged that the religious sentiments of Muslims were hurt.
The petitioner contended that the show has Salman Khan sending away participants based on their performance to Jannat (paradise) or Jahannum (hell). For Muslims the concept of Jannat and Jahannum was sacred, he said.
