77,000 new pensioners identified in AP Hyderabad, March 12 (INN): In a review meeting on pensions distribution in the state, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was informed by Rural Development Minister Mrunalini that the department has identified over 77,000 new pensioners.
The Chief Minister directed the department officials to begin pension disbursement to new pensioners from April 1st. The 77,000 new pensioners are from 12 districts excluding Krishna district which has not submitted the data on the new list yet.
Stating that the total pension for 42 lakh pensioners (including the new pensioners') will come up to Rs454 crore lakh, the Chief Minister asked officials to explore ways of delivering pension to their houses or crediting it to their bank accounts, based on their convenience.
The Chief Minister was informed that of the 5.9 lakh application received, only 2.99 lakh were eligible for pensions which will coordinated by Janmabhoomi Maa Vooru village-level committees.
With regard to sand mining and sale, the Chief Minister was informed that about 53,000 cubic metres of sand is being sold daily. The Chief Minister said that the target should be increased to 60,000 cubic metres per day, adding that sand mining operations are on in 286 sand reaches of the total 307 identified. He added that the DWCRA women groups should hold discussions and come up with ways to increase efficiency. The department officials suggested that some of the uneducated women could be sent to school and be trained to improve their skills.
