TS Govt to follow Presidential Order for scholarships Hyderabad, March 19 (INN): Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari on Thursday informed the Telangana Legislative Assembly that the State Government has decided to continue the Post Matric Scholarship scheme for the academic year 2014-15 for the local candidates as defined in the Presidential Order.
Replying to a question raised by MLA R Krishnaiah and others, the Deputy CM said that the e-Pass portal has been opened for registration/renewals of local candidates as prescribed in the Presidential Order.
The Deputy CM also said that he State Government has already released an amount of Rs 1790.40 crore during 2014-15 to all welfare departments to clear the arrears pending as on March 31, 2014. It includes Rs 421.99 crore for SC Development, Rs 184.38 Crore for Tribal Welfare, Rs 831.53 Crore for BC Welfare, Rs 154.71 Crore for Economically Backward Classes, Rs 196.35 Crore for Minorities Welfare and Rs 1.50 crore for Disabled Welfare. He said as many as 16,57,691 students of all categories are being paid the arrears of 2013-14 during the present as the required budget released by the Government of Telangana.
BJP MLA NVSS Prabhakar pointing out that while the government was giving scholarships to BC students of Bihar, UP and Karnataka, it was not willing to extend the same benefit to the students of AP and 36 castes have been removed from the BC list. BJP floor leader Dr Lakshman asked the Deputy CM to clarify the status of BC students who are now studying in second and third year. He said that the government removed 36 BC castes based on the report of Anantaram Committee.
Responding to these queries, the Deputy CM said that the issue of re-inclusion of 36 castes would be discussed and finalised by the State Cabinet. However, he maintained that the provisions of Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act would be followed in the scholarship schemes.
