Venkaiah condoles demise of Mastan Babu Hyderabad, April 4 (INN): Union Minister for Urban Development M Venkaiah Naidu has condoled the sad demise of Malli Mastan Babu, an ace mountaineer hailing from Nellore, Andhra Pradesh.
The Union Minister spoke to the members of family of Sri Mastan Babu and conveyed his heartfelt condolences. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj informed Naidu this morning that the body of Mastabu was found at 6000 ft. height in the Ceros Mountains.
Mastan Babu is regarded as the fastest ś summiteer" in the world, i.e., fastest to climb summits in all seven continents. He also made it to the Guinness book of World Records for his mountaineering expeditions. An alumnus of IIM, Kolkata and IIT-Kharagpur, Mastan Babu went to climb the Ceros Mountains this time. He apparently began his ascent from the Argentina side. He was supposed to return on the 24th, but did not and was missing since then.
Immediately on hearing the missing news, Naidu spoke to the Minister for External Affairs and requested her to take all necessary steps to find the whereabouts of Mastan Babu and rescue him. He also wrote a letter to her and regularly followed up the matter with her. The Minister for External Affairs took up the matter with the governments of Chile and Argentina and both the governments sent rescue teams in search of Mastan Babu.
Naidu also requested Swaraj to direct the Indian Embassy officials at Argentian and Chili to conduct search operations by helicopter at the expense of Indian Embassies. He also kept the family members of Mastan Babu informed from time to time about the developments.
On hearing that Babu is no more, Naidu discussed with the External Affairs Minister about the matter of bringing back the body to India. External Affairs Minister informed him that the Government of India would bring back the body to the nearest airport to his village i.e. Chennai. He also spoke to the Collector and other senior officials of Nellore to make arrangements to take the body to his village in Nellore district once the body reaches Chennai. Naidu also spoke to Dr. Dorasanamma, the sister of Mastan babu and informed her about the arrangements.
