Role of Media in Parliamentary Democracy highlighted in CPA seminar Visakhapatnam, April 8: The Role of Media in Parliamentary Democracy is highlighted in the different sessions conducted at the inaugural day CPA's (Common Wealth Parliamentary Association-A.P.Chapter) seminar on 'Parliament-Media and Law ' here on Wednesday. Different panelists representing the media and the parliament spoke on the relationship between media and parliament.
Mr.Nic Dawes of the Hindustan Times regretted that the print media was not able to give adequate coverage to the parliament and legislature as the pile of data available to the journalists could not be processed in a short time. Further, Mr.Chandra Shekher of Parliament TV informed that the television news was increasingly focusing on controversies and real and meaningful issues were neglected in the process.

Mr.Abhilash Khandekar, a freelance journalist pointed out that the print media was rendering great service to the nation although some ills were plaguing the print media.
In another session, the theme was 'The Parliament and the Media : Legal Framework', Mr.Prathap Simha, M.P., Lok Sabha discussed the legal framework and the law relating to the parliament. Mr.Craig James ' Clerk, British Columbia observed that the parliamentary functioning should be a role model to the citizens of a country. In the last session, various speakers discussed the media role and the parliament functioning in the 21st century. The sessions were co-ordinated by Ms.Arlene Bussette, Assistant Director of Programmes, CPA Secretariat, London.

AP Legislature Council Chairman Dr.A.Chakrapani, A.P. Legislature Deputy Speaker Mandali Buddaprasad, and other legislative house speakers representing Srilanka, Kenya, Ghana, Maldives, Victoria, Northern Territory, South Australia, Malta,Guernsey, British Columbia, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Samoa, Johor (Malaysia) and other states in India Chattisgarh, Uttarpradesh, Nagaland, Gujarat, Sikkim, Delhi, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Telangana, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka,West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Mizoram, Maharashtra etc. participated in the first day sessions.
MLA Srikanthreddy, TDP Chief Whip Kaluva Srinivasulu, Prof. D.V.R.Murthy, Head of Journalism & Mass Communication, A.U., Prof. Nandini, DSNLU etc. also participated in those sessions.
