EC announces schedule for MLC polls in TS, AP Hyderabad, May 7 (INN): The Election Commission of India on Thursday announced schedule to fill six seats of Telangana Legislative Council and four seats of Andhra Pradesh Council.
Following expiry of term of MLCs K. R. Amos, Nagapuri Rajalingam, Peer Shabbir Ahmed, Balasani Laxminarayana, Bodakunti Venkateswarlu, K. Yadav Reddy and Dharmapuri Srinivas, their seats fell vacant on March 29. Since number of MLCs, to be elected by MLAs has been fixed as 14 as per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, the Union Home Ministry has advised the ECI to fill only six MLC seats. Therefore, the ECI has announced schedule to fill these seats.
Similarly, the ECI announced schedule to fill three additional seats of Members of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council by MLAs. Another seat, which fell vacant due to the death of MLC Paladugu Venkata Rao on 19th January, will also be filled.
The notification for these MLC polls will be issued on May 14 and last date for making nominations will be May 21. While the nominations will be scrutinised on May 22, the last date for withdrawal of candidatures will be May 25. Polling will be held on 1st June and counting of votes will commence on the same day at 5 PM.
