IAEE mulls setting up academy in AP Hyderabad, May 11 (INN): David DuBois, President and CEO, International Association for Exhibitions & Events (IAEE) and other delegates of IAEE called on Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu today at secretariat.
Following his meeting with the Chief Minister at the Indian Association of Exhibitions in August 2014, DuBois said he is keen on setting up an academy to train people in exhibition and event management.
DuBois also said that the IAEE will also provide certification for skill upgradation including courses like exhibition management. 'This could be a third party certification through IAEE in Hospitality in Tourism University that is going to come up in the state,' the Chief Minister said.
Given that the state is planning large scale tourism projects to give thrust to the sector, training students in event and exhibition management and other courses will not only provide employment but also address the needs of the tourism and hospitality sectors.
'We want to begin by addressing the gap in this sector in Andhra Pradesh and emerge as an Academy that caters to the entire Asia-Pacific region. This will be the first-of-its-kind academy in the world,' DuBois added.
The Chief Minister informed DuBois and other delegates that Amaravathi will have a Mega Convention Centre for which they can set up an Academy and train students. 'As part of the tourism sector, IAEE can train people for Meetings, Incentives, Conferencing and Exhibitions (MICE),' said Neerab Prasad, secretary-Tourism & Culture.
DuBois informed the Chief Minister that the IAEE is committed to support the state government. 'You can work with the AP State Skill Development Corporation and begin with skill development certification,' the Chief Minister said.
Stating that India is set to grow at double-digital rate, the Chief Minister told DuBois that it is a country that is on every country's radar for business and investments.
In the coming years, 'our trade fairs will focus on the promotion and development of indigenous and international trade to increase the volume of trade and boost activities of industrialization. We want to make this state a tourism hub where people will come to us for services in hospitality and MICE,' the Chief Minister said.
Advisor (Communications) Dr. Parakala Prabhakar, secretary (Tourism & Culture) Neerab Prasad, APSSDC CEO Ganta Subbarao, OSD to CM Venkaiah Chowdary and other officials were present in the meeting.
