Six children drown in Maniar Dam Hyderabad, May 25 (INN): Six children were drowned in Maniar Dam of Karimangar on Monday.
The chilren were aged between 9 and 13 years. The victims include eight-year-old twins Sumeet and Suheet, both students of Hyderabad-based Delhi Public School. They had gone to Karimanagar to spend vacation at their relatives house in Ram Nagar. On Monday, they went to the dam after playing cricket along with their cousins Jagan, Sujan Reddy, Satish and Pragyan. Another boy, Rohan, 12, was also accompanied them.
While Rohan was sitting at the bank, all six children walked into the dam without realising its depth. One after the other, all six of them drowned. Although Rohan screamed for help, being an isolated place no one could hear their screams. Rohan rushed for help and found a few people at some distance who immediately alerted the local police.
With the help of divers, the police team, led by DSP J Rama Rao, retrieved all six bodies from the dam. Karimangar MLA Gangula Kamalakar also rushed to the spot.
