AP Cabinet seeks Centre's intervention
Hyderabad, June 9 (INN): The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet, which met here on Tuesday, passed a resolution condemning the phone tapping by the Telangana Government. It also passed a resolution demanding that the Law and Order maintenance in Hyderabad be handed over to the Governor, as per Section 8 of the AP Reorganisation Act.
The State Cabinet, which met under the leadership of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, has also decided to lodge a formal complaint with the Centre on the issue. Further, it has been decided to wage a legal battle against the Telangana Government on the issue. Immediately after the meeting, Naidu left for New Delhi.
Briefing the media persons after the cabinet meeting, Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu alleged that the Telangana Government tapped the telephones of 120 persons including AP's Chief Minister, Ministers and senior officials. This information was provided to the cabinet by State DGP JV Ramudu. He said that the State Government was having evidence to prove its allegations.
Yanamala also demanded that the Law and Order subject should be handled by Governor ESL Narasimhan, as it was provisioned in the Schedule 8 of Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, for the next nine years. He said the Law and Order powers came into the hands of Telangana Government as the Centre did not issue guidelines on the issue. He alleged that the Telangana Government has kept the AP Ministers and officials under illegal surveillance. He asked the Telangana Government to explain as to how he got the tapes related to 'Cash for Vote' case.
The Finance Minister said that State Chief Secretary and DGP would meet the Union Home Secretary on Wednesday and handover the copies of resolutions passed by the State cabinet. He also informed that a three-member committee has been constituted to probe into the phone tapping issue.
