TS Congress discusses GHMC polls

Hyderabad, June 14 (INN): The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee on Sunday announced that it would never ally with the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) in the next GHMC polls or any other election in future.

Congress party's alliance with the MIM dominated the discussion during the TPCC's extended meeting held at Gandhi Bhavan on Sunday on preparations for next elections of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. The Congress leaders asked top leadership to clear the prevailing confusion among the people that it was still an ally of MIM. The leaders observed that by contesting Assembly elections in different States like Maharashtra, the MIM has caused immense damage to the Congress. Despite suffering many hit backs, the Congress leadership did not react against the MIM. They demanded that the TPCC's top leadership make a clear statement on its stand towards MIM.

The meeting, chaired by TPCC President N Uttam Kumar Reddy, was attended by Leaders of Opposition K Jana Reddy (Assembly) and Mohammed Ali Shabbir (Council), Working President Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumantha Rao and other senior leaders including Renuka Chowdhary. Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee president Danam Nagender drew flak from other leaders who alleged that his behaviour was causing damage to the party in the city. The arguments turned so bitter that Nagender offered to quit from the post. Renuka Chowdhary complained of less representation of women in the party.

Speaking to media persons later, Uttam Kumar Reddy made it clear that the Congress would never ally with the MIM in future. He also announced that the Congress would launch massive agitation against the TRS Government if it fails to provide 12% reservation to Muslims in jobs and education. He said a meeting demanding 12% Muslim reservation will be organised by this month-end in the Old City which would be attended by AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh.

Uttam Kumar Reddy also informed that AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi will visit Hyderabad on June 29. The next day, he will also visit Andhra Pradesh. He said Rahul Gandhi has been invited to attend public meetings at Osmania University and another meeting at Warangal. He said that the Congress party would lay special focus on instilling confidence among settlers living in Hyderabad.

Speaking about 'Cash for Vote' case, he said that the government should order CBI probe into the matter as TDP MLA A Revanth Reddy was caught red-handed while trying to bribe another MLA. Further, he said the defections, encouraged by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, should also be probed.
