Congress rule was golden decade: Uttam

Hyderabad, June 21 (INN): The Congress party has expressed confidence of returning to power in the next GHMC elections.

Addressing the review meeting of Khairtabad constituency at Nandani Nagar here on Sunday, TPCC President N Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the Congress party would seek votes in the next elections on the basis of its contribution in development of Hyderabad during its regime from 2004-2014. He said that present TRS Government was openly cheating the people by making fake promises. He said that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was on the spree of making false promises and even launched the Swachh Hyderabad campaign only in view of GHMC elections.

Earlier, Uttam Kumar and Greater Hyderabad president Danam Nagender released a brochure "The Golden Decade of Hyderabad 2004-2014" prepared by Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council and GHCC Incharge Mohammed Ali Shabbir.

Speaking on the occasion, Shabbir Ali said that the previous Congress regime developed Hyderabad by spending more than Rs. 1 lakh crore which turned the city into a 'Must See Destination' in the world. He said that the previous Congress Government had spent Rs. 2,478 Crore on international airport; Rs 6,696 Crore on Nehru ORR; Rs 600 Crore on PVNR Express Way and thousands of crores on different other initiatives like drinking water. He said all three phases of Krishna River and first phase of Godavari River water for Hyderabad were started by the Congress party.

Shabbir Ali said it was the Congress party which turned the MCH into GHMC in April 2007 to give a major boost to city's development. While the MCH budget in 2004-05 was Rs. 680.69 crore, the GHMC's budget in 2014-15 crossed Rs. 4,599 crore. Similarly, the IT Export from Hyderabad grew from Rs. 5,025 Crore in 2003-04 to Rs. 57,000 crore in 2013-14. He said that the Congress party has ensured overall development of Hyderabad.

The Congress leader ridiculed the claims of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on developing Hyderabad. He said that the Chief Minister has been proposing works worth over Rs. 42,000 crore for Hyderabad while the State Government has allocated a mere Rs. 526 crore in budget 2015-16. "From where will KCR get this money? Has he found some hidden treasure of Nizam? He must clarify this and convene a special budget session if he was sincere," he said while accusing the Chief Minister of cheating the people.

Shabbir Ali expressed confidence that the Congress party would win the next GHMC elections by securing more than 100 seats.

Nagender also slammed the TRS Government for trying to cheat people with campaigns like Swachh Hyderabad. Later, he took the Congress team to an over flowing garbage near KCR's residence. Later, the Congress team also visited Balkampur nala which was in very bad shape.
