TJAC disrupts Telugu films screening Hyderabad: Protesting the delay in issuing the censor's certificate to Jai Bolo Telangana, activists of various Joint Action Committees disrupted the screening of Telugu films in more than 30 theatres in 10 different places in the region on Wednesday. The high-profile film on the Telangana agitation, is said to contain some sarcastic remarks against the Congress president, Mrs Sonia Gandhi, and several Seema-Andhra leaders.
As a result, the collections for films such as Wanted, Mirapakai, Param Veera Chakra, Anaganaga O Dheerudu, Golconda High School and Ala Modalayindi were affected for the morning show and in some places the disruption continued for the matinee show too. Theatres in Jadcharla had to actually shut down for the day. In Warangal, the Kakatiya University Joint Action Committee (KUJAC) prevented screening of movies in all theatres in Warangal city.
'While the Censor Board does not hesitate to clear violent and pornographic movies, it is ironic that Jai Bolo Telangana is facing objections,' said Mr Waliullah Qadri, chairman, Telangana Students' Joint Action Committee, Warangal. Mr Vijayender Reddy, president of the TFCC, confirmed that screenings were disrupted in Warangal, Kazipet, Hanamkonda, Vadaparthi and Jadcharla by 'JAC students and advocates who were annoyed with the delay in issuing a censor certificate to Jai Bolo Telangana. The protests were sporadic and difficult to control,' he said.
According to the director of the film, N. Shankar, the revising committee of the Central Board of Film Certification would arrive in the city on Wednesday to watch the film and give its verdict. 'I have deferred my film's release to February 4. I am in the dark about the 'objectionable cuts' suggested by the Censor Board. I rule out apprehensions about my film provoking people,' he said.
