Kajal pips Asin and Anushka! Chennai: When it comes to the popularity quotient, Kajal Agarwal pales in comparison to the likes of Asin or Anushka. But the Telugu actress has recently stolen a march over both of them as she is the one who has been picked to play opposite Ajay Devgn in the remake of Suriya's superhit Tamil film Singam. Sources say Asin and Anushka were strongly recommended by the powers that be, but the makers decided to take Kajal on board.
'I owe it to the stupendous success of my Telugu film Magadheera. I understand that only on seeing my performance in that film did they decide to cast me in this Hindi movie,' points out Kajal, who is on a high as this is her big ticket to Bollywood. Kajal made debut in the 2004 Hindi film Kyun' Ho Gaya Na!, where she played Aishwarya Rai's friend.
After a considerable lull, she appeared again in veteran Tamil director Bhrathiraja's Bommalattam. The film drew poor response. Then she made her debut in Telugu in Teja's Lakshmi Kalyanam alongside Kalyan Ram, which did not do well at the box office. In 2008, she was back in Tamil (though a guest role) with Saroja, a comic-thriller by Venkat Prabhu.
With three releases in Telugu, 2009 was a significant year for the actress, including Magadheera, where she donned a double role for the first time. One of the biggest hits ever, Magadheera made Kajal as one of the most sought-after actresses in Telugu.
Another news that trickles in from Tamil Nadu says Akshara Haasan, Kamal Haasan's younger daughter, is all set to make her Bollywood debut. Earlier, it was said that this light-eyed beauty was taking to direction, but a birdie tells us that she has changed gears and now geared up to take a full-fledged plunge into acting. Looks like the whole family is making it big in the movie business!
