IT raids: Actors issued demand notices Hyderabad, March 12 (INN): The Income Tax department on Thursday issued demand notices to Telugu film actors Akkineni Nagarjuna, his brother Venkat, Ravi Teja, Anushka and film producer D Shiva Prasad Reddy in connection with some land deals by them in Visakhapatnam recently.
According to reports, the IT Department, while issuing demand notices, asked the actors to file an explanation within one week. The department issued notices after noticing inconsistent entries in some of their bank accounts over the land transactions.
According to reports, Nagarjuna, Anushka Shetty, Ravi Teja and several other actors from the Telugu Film Industry, popularly referred to as 'Tollywood' purchased huge tracts of land near the beach town Bhimili recently.
According to sources, the IT officials in Visakhapatnam got wind of the various land transactions and sent the information to Hyderabad office where they found no mention of the transactions.
Actor Nagarjuna is reported to have recently developed a convention centre in the posh Madhapur area and has invested heavily in this project. IT officials are investigating the income source for these investments.
Ravi Teja, who acted in the recent blockbuster Don Sreenu is said to have charged a huge remuneration.
Earlier, the Bhimili Court in Visakhapatnam had also issued summons to Anushka in connection with a land dispute. The Court issued summons to Anushka as she did not turn up for hearing in the case. Anushka reportedly had bought the disputed land between Madhurawada and Bhimili Road in the district at a cost of Rs 5 crore.
The IT Department seized several important documents on Wednesday during the raids conduced on residences of film personalities at Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills and Sreenagar Colony in the city and in Bangalore and Chennai.
