Nag likely summoned by IT officials Hyderabad: The element of 'surprise' is central to tax raids. Income tax officials, who knocked on actress Anushka Shetty's doors on Wednesday morning, thought they had it. But when the consummate actress faced them, it was their turn to be surprised. She was cordial and cool, sources said adding that the Tollywood beauty had given an impression that she had nothing to hide. 'Nothing can be taken for granted unless documents are scanned meticulously,' the experienced officials later said.
A day after the raids, the Income Tax department on Thursday served notices on Anushka, actors Akkineni Nagarjuna and Ravi Teja and producer D Shiva Prasad asking them to appear before it for explaining the sources of their income. 'They will be given two months time to appear before the officials and explain the documents seized from them. There's a chance that Nagarjuna could be summoned on Friday evening,' a senior Income Tax official told.
'Yuvasamrat' Nagarjuna gave sleepless nights to the I-T officials, thanks to his business interests and properties spread across the City. The officials had to continue the searches from Wednesday morning till the wee hours of Thursday. The seized documents were brought to the investigation wing of the Income Tax office where they will be looked in to by the officials concerned.
'In a day or two after scrutinising the documents, one can know the irregularities which might have been committed by these film personalities to evade tax payment,'' an official said. Nearly five teams of income tax officials conducted the raids on the houses and offices of the film personalities and they are expected to report to the Director of Income Tax. None of the top officials was prepared to share any information.
